About The Position

This is a broad part-time classification used to provide first line staff and program supervision and is assigned to one or more specialized services and/or programs such as, but not limited to: Athletics, Aquatics, Day Camp, Theatre and Tiny Tots. It is distinguished from other part-time classifications in that incumbents are expected to have specialized knowledge and extensive experience in the assigned program area and will be responsible for immediate program supervision. Incumbents may be assigned year-round or seasonally. General supervision is provided by a Community Services Specialist, Community Services Supervisor or higher level personnel. Exercises direct supervision over subordinate Community Services staff.

Requirements

  • Three years of part-time, or three summers of full-time increasingly responsible experience in the planning, supervision and implementation of a recreational or community-based program or a related program area or service, including some supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent to the completion of one year of college level course work in recreation, early childhood education, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Successful completion of certified CPR and first aid training may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, supervise, promote, deliver and evaluate a defined community services program or service.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff and volunteers; provide input on personnel related decisions.
  • Coordinate, monitor, secure and direct the proper and safe use of program facilities.
  • Identify maintenance problems at program facilities and coordinate necessary corrections with appropriate staff.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of program budget(s) and program goals.
  • Assist in and recommend purchase of equipment and supplies for assigned program, maintain equipment and inventory records.
  • Develop, implement and maintain systems dealing with fee and donation collection and record keeping.
  • Prepare, coordinate and distribute program and publicity information.
  • Provide information and assist the general public.
  • Prepare and present written and oral reports as required.
  • Operate specialized equipment necessary for program delivery.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.
