About The Position

This is a highly visible position that interacts with citizens and park visitors to create a positive public image in their efforts to respond to inquiries or complaints within the City of Wheat Ridge Parks and Greenbelt. Responsible for enforcing code related ordinances and park rules/regulations for the City. Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.

Requirements

  • Must remain fit for duty to perform all essential duties.
  • Physical activities include: intermittently sitting, standing, walking, occasional running, kneeling, crouching/stooping/squatting, twisting upper body, lifting and carrying less than 50 pounds, coordination, endurance, hearing, jumping, speaking, vision and writing.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to extreme risks, hazards and confrontations with ordinance violators.
  • Position requires a set part-time 30 hours per week work schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Educating and assisting in addressing citizens' questions and concerns pertaining to parks rules and restrictions.
  • Proactively provides positive customer service and education to the City's community, park guests, members of the public and other city entities on applicable laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
  • Enforcing codes, rules and regulations as they pertain to park rules/regulations; prepare written reports, documenting actions taken.
  • Conducts active patrols of the City's municipal parks, open space areas, as well as the parks greenbelt trails system.
  • Responds to, investigates, and educates citizens on resolutions for complaints.
  • Performs on-site patrols and ascertain compliance with ordinances, regulations, and proposed plans; makes follow-up inspections to ensure violations are abated, altered, discontinued, or removed; assist with legal actions for continuing violations.
  • Prepares daily reports documenting work performed; prepare and document code violations for court cases.
  • Be prepared and respond to animal related park calls (education, safety awareness, written warnings)
