About The Position

New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities. Supported Cluster Housing (SCH) is one of the many services offered by New Directions. Cluster Housing provides independent living supports to people who may have intellectual disabilities and/or mental health issues, and who experience barriers to living independently in the community.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is required
Valid Class 5 Driver's License with access to a safe, well-maintained vehicle for work purposes
Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Nice To Haves

Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, addictions, mental health, and related education.
Experience working with people with mental health barriers preferred

Responsibilities

Monitoring and securing housing buildings to ensure the safety of all tenants
Supporting individuals through crisis situations, and who may be in conflict with the law and struggling with addictions.
Responsible to support the needs of the participants directed by the clinical team; within the program mandate for living independently in the community and in the cluster housing locations, in keeping with the program’s best practices and established model.
Responding to crisis situations and/or contacting 911
Ensuring tenants do not damage the property
Maintains awareness of community resources.
Completing detailed reports and shift logs upon completion of every shift
Empowering individuals to maintain independent living situations in a cluster housing model.
