The Pavilion at McLean Hospital is the premiere residential program in the country providing comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for adults 18 and older with a wide range of complex psychiatric illnesses including depression, anxiety, OCD, substance use, and contributing personality issues. Job Summary Summary Under direction of the Nurse Manager, Clinical Coordinator & Charge Nurse, the Community Residence Counselor (CRC) provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in collaboration with others.
  • Driver's license (MA, CT, NH, NY, RI, VT) preferred (varies by program), and ability to satisfactorily meet hospital driving standards.
  • All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
  • Required to complete electronic medical records training and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • One year patient care or related experience preferred, preferably in a psychiatric setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with current treatment plan, under the supervisor of the Nurse Manager, Clinical Coordinator and Charge Nurse.
  • Provides and supervises community activities according to needs.
  • This may include driving & transporting patients to and from activities in hospital vehicles.
  • Remains awake and alert, at all times, while on the job.
  • Assists patients in maintaining and keeping various appointments.
  • Clear, concise, and timely documentation and shift notes.
  • Establishes relationships with patients that are helpful and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Participates in patient rounds, status checks, or teams per program guidelines.
  • Completes assigned patient care tasks per program guidelines and/or daily assignment sheet.
  • Works effectively to manage the therapeutic milieu.
  • Provides patients with direction and supervision as needed.
  • Follows established hospital & program policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Communicates information regarding patient milieu/therapeutic environment to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Communicates observations related to medication side effects, physical and emotional changes to appropriate medical staff in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients in their activities of daily living.
  • Assesses sleep patterns and assists patients to develop more appropriate sleep cycles notifying clinical team as necessary.
  • Completes mandatory annual in-service requirements, including but not limited to: CPR and de-escalation.
  • Attends and participates in rounds and case conferences when appropriate.
  • Physical ability for participation in patient activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
