About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Development, the Community Relationship Lead (Volunteers) is responsible for ongoing engagement and deepening relationships with supporters, primarily those looking to volunteer their time. A key component of this position is to facilitate and grow the volunteer program, thereby building stronger relationships with the broader community. This position also acts as a representative of our organization and its mission, vision, and values in public spaces including media, education, and events. Boyle Street Community Services (BSCS) is a values-driven organization that believes our clients are the experts in their own life. Requirements

  • Post Secondary Degree in a relevant field of study (i.e., Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English)
  • At least 1 year of experience in Volunteer Coordination, Public Education, Community Engagement, Fundraising or related work
  • Experience and/or proven capability to organize volunteer events and activities.
  • Must have knowledge of volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition process.
  • Experience and knowledge of coordinating engagement or fundraising events in the non-profit sector
  • The candidate for this position must be able to walk, squat, push, pull, sit, lift up to 30 lbs
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills that can be applied to the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends, and services particularly, but not limited to the urban aboriginal population is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong, trusting relationships with all levels within the organization and with external agencies
  • Valid First Aid certificate required
  • Police Information Check kept up to date (every 3 years)
  • Child and Youth Intervention record kept up to date (every 3 years)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the inner-city and/or non-profit sector is an asset
  • Mental Resiliency and an aptitude for problem solving will be beneficial when working in an environment with challenges and risks
  • Digital literacy and working knowledge of data collection is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries related to volunteer opportunities from members of the public.
  • Recruit volunteers for events and opportunities that support the Development work at BSCS, both for individual events and long-term program support (Special Occasion Volunteers, AGLC Volunteers, and Program Support Volunteers).
  • Screen, select, orientate and train volunteers in alignment with BSCS Code of Ethics, values, and philosophy.
  • Keep track of volunteer hours, shifts, demographics, stories of impact, and other relevant data for reporting utilizing available data management tools.
  • Execute volunteer retention and recognition activities throughout the year.
  • Work with HR and other departments to ensure compliance with BSCS policies.
  • Maintain data integrated reports as needed.
  • Organize and support connecting community partners within BSCS events.
  • Participate in general campaign planning, promotion, and reciprocity.
  • Respond to inquiries related to supporting our organization from members of the public.
  • Work with the Communications Team to complete media interviews related to our organization, the individuals we serve and the work we do.
  • All other duties as outlined by program manager.
  • All staff at BSCS are expected to participate in occasional outreach and emergency response efforts (e.g., winter response) to support and engage with clients.
  • All employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
