About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, developing, maintaining, and supporting activities to build and enhance The Salvation Army's image and ministries within the community. The role assists the Corps Officer in cultivating and developing fruitful relationships with corporations, churches, civic groups, and other public entities. Additionally, the position involves recruiting, training, coordinating, and directing volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related Business field, AND Three years of progressively responsible experience in public relations developing and coordinating special events and media relations, OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate the English language.
  • Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and evaluate the work efforts of volunteers.
  • Ability to initiate projects and use sound judgement in concept assimilation and promotion.
  • Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Valid State Driver’s License Required with ability to meet Salvation Army driving requirements for insurance purposes and remain qualified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle throughout the course of employment in this position.
  • Must pass a Level 2 background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and cultivates relationships with the public, foundations, local churches and schools, civic organizations, youth agencies and clubs for education and support of new and existing programs.
  • Conducts public contact and public speaking to bring awareness and to garner support for the ministries and services of The Salvation Army.
  • Cultivates relationships to procure gifts-in-kind support.
  • Initiates and maintains community partnerships with local corporations and area businesses.
  • Develops corporate gifts and sponsorships for special programs and projects.
  • Develops and maintains a marketing plan.
  • Coordinates resources and volunteer personnel to implement year-round fundraising efforts including manning Christmas kettles and Angel Tree Toys projects.
  • Recruits, plans, schedules, and assigns volunteer staff to program coordinators.
  • Instructs volunteers in proper methods and procedures.
  • Evaluates volunteer performance through interviews with program coordinators and volunteers.
