About The Position

Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is seeking a Community Relations Specialist to represent the organization in the community and at member events. This role will coordinate and implement programs to increase membership, services per member, and loan activity, supporting MSGCU's strategic targets. The specialist will also support financial education outreach and deliver financial literacy programs to meet community needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Education or related field required.
  • 2 years of sales, field marketing, teaching, or community relations experience, preferably within the financial industry or a closely related field required.
  • Uses effective listening skills to gain insight and understanding into the needs of others in order to build relationships and deliver impactful, member-focused community programs.
  • Understands stakeholder requirements, expectations, and needs; builds partnerships and works cooperatively with others to achieve shared objectives.
  • Uses strong project management and organizational skills to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm.
  • Possesses excellent critical thinking, time, and territory management skills.
  • Applies knowledge of MSGCU’s processes and culture to efficiently secure and deploy resources to meet organizational goals.
  • Orchestrates multiple activities simultaneously, breaking down objectives into tasks, and staging activities with milestones and schedules.
  • Ability to serve as subject matter expert on financial education topics.
  • Relates comfortably, builds, and maintains relationships with people across levels, functions, and culture.
  • Builds strong relationship networks inside and outside MSGCU.
  • Develops and delivers communications tailored to the needs of different audiences and situations, adapting the approach to match shifting demands.
  • Engages audiences in meaningful ways and fosters a learning environment while effectively articulating ideas and opportunities that will create sustainable value for MSGCU.
  • Ability to speak effectively in public to large groups and lead financial literacy sessions on various financial topics.

Responsibilities

  • Represents MSGCU in the community and at member events and business development activities.
  • Coordinates and implements programs and initiatives designed to increase membership, services per member, and loan activity to help MSGCU achieve our strategic targets.
  • Supports MSGCU's financial education outreach efforts and delivery of financial literacy programs to meet the needs of current and prospective members in the community.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with Select Employee Groups (SEGs), key influencers, and community leaders to increase awareness and familiarity with MSGCU and promote MSGCU products and services to support membership growth.
  • Engages with schools, businesses, community organizations, and assigned territory chambers to promote the availability of financial literacy and generate goodwill.
  • Establishes MSGCU presence in new communities while maintaining presence in existing markets.
  • Tactfully addresses competition and communicates the benefits of MSGCU’s products and services throughout the community.
  • Analyzes and audits community engagement opportunities to provide recommendations for impactful involvement.
  • Plans and executes business development activities within the community.
  • Assists in scoping, implementing, and managing various Community Relations initiatives including, community sponsorships, Give Back Program, Welcome Back to School Events, branch ribbon cuttings and grand openings.
  • Allocates resources, defines and measures objectives, tracks progress to ensure deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with expectations.
  • Reviews financial records, analyzes outcomes, and identifies improvements for future initiatives.
  • Identifies opportunities to engage with SEGs, key influencers, and community partners within the brand footprint to coordinate schedules and facilitate financial education in classrooms, workplaces, and community settings.
  • Develops curriculum and prepares the necessary instructional handouts for distribution at adult and high school presentations.
  • Maintains financial literacy and knowledge of credit union products by actively engaging in essential professional development to deliver reliable information to members and potential members.
