About The Position

Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC) is seeking a Community Programmer: Youth Leadership to assist in developing programming and co-facilitating the Youth Leadership Program. This role involves providing field placement guidance and support, and assisting in the development of youth-led community initiatives within a community development framework. SWCHC is a non-profit, community-governed organization serving over 18,000 clients annually, offering a wide range of health care services and committed to removing barriers to access for vulnerable populations. The organization operates within an anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework and strives to reflect the diversity of the communities it serves.

Requirements

• Experience and proven success working with youth 13-18yrs.
• Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers.
• Current Standard First Aid, CPR level C
• Fluency in English required.
• Be between 18-30 years of age, at the start of the position
• Police check for working with vulnerable populations no older than 6 months
• Authorized to work in Canada
• Strong knowledge of youth development
• Effective at communicating and problem solving
• Knowledge of community resources

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of French an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning and implements activities that enhance positive leadership qualities, preparing youth 13-18 yrs. to become volunteers
• Creates opportunities for youth to reflect on their well-being and potential
• Liaisons with SWCHC staff and other community partners if needed
• Assists in conducting recruitment, registration, maintain files and daily attendance
• Assists in monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for programming
• Ensures all programming meets Health and Safety Standards
