About The Position

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Community Partnerships Lead for its Office of Community Engagement (OCE). This hybrid role, based out of Argonne's Hyde Park location in Chicago, IL, is crucial for advancing Argonne's science and technology through community collaborations and extending its benefits to communities. The OCE acts as a central point for Argonne's external community activities, aligning community engagement and partnerships with the laboratory's science and technology strategy. The office is part of the Science and Technology Partnerships and Outreach directorate (S&TPO). The OCE aims to be strategic and responsive to emerging priorities, build collaborative relationships with communities and organizations, facilitate investment in research projects, support strategic growth initiatives, and track the impact of engagement efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business, or science-related field.
  • 6+ years of experience driving strategic partnerships with communities, agencies, non-profit organizations, and small businesses.
  • Strong grant writing skills, with the ability to blend technical and creative writing.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of grants application and monitoring.
  • Proven track record of securing grant funding.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Experience in managing projects across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to work with considerable independence within a team environment and a network of relationships.
  • Ability to maintain records and develop reports on program results.
  • Ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to attend events outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends periodically.
  • Passion for the strategic thought partnership role and the mission of the lab.

  • Knowledge of the Chicagoland community engagement ecosystem, networks, political environment, and key influencers is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a structured relationship management pipeline, including identifying, cultivating, and advancing relationships with prospective partners through prospecting, qualification, proposal, and agreement stages.
  • Develop and maintain organizations and stakeholders with a systematic approach to relationship management and partnership development.
  • Research and identify external funding proposals for OCE and community-focused external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with community partners on planning, grant writing, program design, budget development, and evaluation of grant-funded projects.
  • Assist the Director in managing OCE partnerships, including overseeing grant implementation, administration, and programmatic reporting.
  • Liaise with the Argonne research community to align research priorities and expertise with community interests and challenges.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with AI tools for relationship management, data analysis, grant prospecting, and partnership tracking.
  • Partner with the OCE Community Engagement Strategist to manage external stakeholder relationships.
  • Partner with the OCE Communications Coordinator to build awareness and support partnership communication strategies.
  • Provide support for logistical needs of community engagement work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
