About The Position

Manito Ikwe Kagiikwe (MIK) supports women and children affected by systemic marginalization and substance use who have complex health and social needs. Functioning as part of a coordinated service delivery team, the Outreach Worker works proactively with new and existing clients, offering a range of support and recovery services, within an existing service plan and on an as-needed basis. The Outreach Worker is a relationship-builder and advocate and provides service in a non-judgmental and culturally appropriate manner, helping clients to build new skills and achieve their goals.

Requirements

  • Must have a Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in community, preferably with program target population.
  • Experience providing outreach with hard to reach populations.
  • Proven knowledge and ability in critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomes.
  • Commitment to the principles that guide Mount Carmel Clinic, as reflected in the history, vision, mission and values.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and families.
  • Proven ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity and cultural awareness.
  • Strong knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, harm reduction, trauma-informed and community development principles in all aspects of the work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of computer systems.
