About The Position

The Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator connects with community members, especially pregnant and parenting families and communities that experience health disparities, to increase awareness of Healthy Start programs and services. As part of the Healthy Start team, this person leads outreach and education efforts, builds strong community relationships, and helps improve maternal and child health across Southwestern Pennsylvania. In this role, you will spend much of your time in the community coordinating outreach events, supporting Community Health Advocates, connecting families to Healthy Start programs, gathering feedback from community members, and helping deliver educational activities to maximize Healthy Start’s reach, reputation and partnerships. You will also help ensure that community voices are reflected in Healthy Start's programs and initiatives. In the spirit of community organizing, this position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with communities, advancing health equity, and building meaningful relationships. Strong communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills are important for success in this role.

Requirements

  • Passion for maternal and child health, health equity, and community-driven change.
  • Experience in community engagement, organizing, outreach, and/or advocacy.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the communities served, including challenges and assets related to maternal and child health.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and building partnerships with local organizations.
  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances are required.
  • Valid unrestricted Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
  • Must possess valid and current automobile insurance and be listed as an insured driver.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with data collection, reporting, and community impact evaluation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and communication/collaboration tools preferred.
  • Degree or further training strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement community outreach and engagement strategies to connect with parents, families, and local stakeholders to achieve outreach and recruitment goals.
  • Provide training and support to staff, Community Health Advocates (CHAs) and volunteers involved in outreach activities.
  • Facilitate workshops, forums, and events that educate and empower communities about maternal and child health and family well-being.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, coalitions, and local partners to strengthen Healthy Start’s reach and impact.
  • Ensure outreach initiatives are culturally responsive and grounded in cultural humility.
  • Facilitate Healthy Start’s Safe Sleep Education Initiative.
  • Develop and disseminate educational materials, toolkits, and campaigns for families and community members.
  • Support advocacy initiatives that elevate community voices and influence maternal and child health policy and programming.
  • Act as a community liaison, gathering input, feedback, and insights to inform program design and improvements.
  • Facilitate Healthy Start’s Community Health Advocate training program, including coordinating educational trainings and associated administrative tasks.
  • Work closely with project managers and program staff to coordinate outreach activities and ensure alignment with Healthy Start’s programs and strategic priorities.
  • Support data collection and reporting on outreach activities, participation, and community impact.
  • Assist in identifying gaps in community engagement and develop strategies to reach underserved populations.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local organizations, coalitions, and stakeholders to enhance community-based initiatives.
  • Help facilitate cross-sector collaboration to address social determinants of health and systemic barriers to care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
