About The Position

This position is responsible for the continued growth and development of the Green Grades recycling and education program. The role involves educational content development, virtual and in-person facility tours, community education and outreach events, social media posts on recycling, school presentations, grant applications and management, and engagement in industry trade associations. The coordinator will also support the Marketing Director with content development and coordination of marketing efforts with the educational program. Key functions include maintaining and expanding the Green Grades program, developing virtual learning capacity, managing the Education Center and Mobile Education Center, facilitating public tours, developing school curriculum, attending community and school events, pursuing and managing grants, and developing community relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Proficient in communication, presenting, teaching others about recycling and waste
  • Current Minnesota driver’s license required
  • Ability to travel overnight on occasion (5-10 times per year)
  • Public speaking to diverse audiences - children, adults, and industry professionals
  • Proficient writing skills
  • Social media posting and communications
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Professional attitude
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Xcel
  • Punctuality

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience giving presentations, public speaking, or media work desirable
  • Previous experience with social media campaigns desirable
  • Industry appropriate certification(s) desirable

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow as appropriate the Dem-Con’s Green Grades education program
  • Develop and expand the virtual and remote learning capacity of existing education program
  • Recommission and maintain ongoing relevance of Dem-Con’s Education Center and Mobile Education Center
  • Working with vendors and subcontractors as appropriate
  • Ensure education center is properly maintained and prepped as needed for tours
  • Facilitate and provide public tours of Dem-Con facilities
  • Develop and update curriculum to present at schools
  • Facilitate and attend community events with mobile education trailer (approx. 10-20/year)
  • Facilitate and present at classrooms and school events (approx. 10-20/year)
  • Pursue and explore new funding sources to expand the education program
  • Preparation and submittal of grant applications and associated regular reporting
  • Manage existing grants for Dem-Con and the Green Grades program including Scott County Education Grant, Scott County Organics Grant, Recycling Partnership grant, and others as they are procured
  • Develop and manage relations with organizations and groups that currently or may tour Dem-Con in the future
  • Work with Dem-Con team and outside sources to gain industry knowledge and business acumen with waste and recycling industry
  • Communicate with web host to update facility hours, notifications, postings, news, pictures, etc.
  • Manage and maintain a social media presence for Dem-Con Companies with regular postings of current and relevant information
  • Work with and support editors, newspapers, trade publications, etc. for press releases, and article development
  • Assist in development and creation of any promotional or collateral material for Dem-Con’s businesses as they arise
