About The Position

Under minimal supervision, this role supports Summit Elementary School's efforts to connect with and engage families and communities across the school and district. The Community Liaison provides consistent on-site support to school staff and families, assisting with communication, familiarizing new families with the school, and fostering effective relationships to promote deep learning for students.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of experience in administrative assistant/clerical, human resources, payroll, accounting, community liaison, or community/public relations.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Passing score on the district interpreting and translating test (if bilingual).
  • Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment (telephones, copiers, fax machines, email).
  • Intermediate knowledge of common office application software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate interpersonal relations skills.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate common office equipment.
  • Ability to work alone and with others.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy books.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Support active parental involvement in children's education at home and school.
  • Welcome new families and help them integrate into the school and community by providing information and resources.
  • Facilitate communication and understanding between families, school, and the community.
  • Introduce and encourage families to participate in school/community communication meetings (e.g., PASS, PTCO).
  • Promote regular student attendance by providing outreach and resources to families in need.
  • Collaborate with District offices to facilitate support for families and programs.
  • Develop strong relationships with school staff to assist students with academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Gather and disseminate community and district resources.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Answer telephones, greet visitors, route calls, take messages, provide directions, and offer routine information and assistance.
  • Support and assist the school's clinic on an emergency or as-needed basis.
  • Support district-level initiatives for the McKinney-Vento population, including direct community support of district resource pantries.
  • Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior during various activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
