About The Position

The Booker T. Washington Community Service Center (BTWCSC) is seeking a Food to Freedom Community Liaison to provide programmatic, outreach, operational, and administrative support for its "Food to Freedom" Food Justice program. This program offers free, culturally-appropriate food services and educational opportunities to the San Francisco District 5 community, with a focus on a "Black Led, Black Fed" ecosystem. The role aims to address food insecurity by providing access to fresh produce, groceries, and culturally relevant meals, ultimately transforming the local food distribution system.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • HS Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma.
  • Possess an interest in making a difference with respect to nutrition, while having a passion for food justice and healthy food choices.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, especially the Black/African-American community.
  • Reliable, dependable and detail-oriented.
  • Customer service-oriented.
  • Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
  • Strong command of Google Suite and Gmail.
  • Excellent verbal communications and clear writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage activities that require attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, understand and complete various forms, documents, and reports.
  • Does not indulge in illicit drugs, alcoholic beverages prior or during work hours.
  • Ability to plan, be flexible, work with a team, and create activities on the spot.
  • Ability to work with diversity and challenge, establish and maintain relationships.
  • Must be able to move 50 pounds safely.
  • Must have the physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks involving lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.

  • Experience working with a variety of age groups (youth to senior) is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of BTWCSC weekly and daily food justice programs, including free market pantry, community meals distribution, program meals coordination, and events.
  • Adhere to Program priorities around food, service, volunteers, and community engagement and support these areas to be responsive to the shifting needs in each.
  • Support community outreach events about BTWCSC programs or offerings, and sharing educational tools for audiences ages 0-99.
  • Facilitate curriculum to teach the community about sustainable food systems, cooking, nutrition, and gardening. Coordinate produce tastings, retail and farmers market explorations, and hands-on cooking classes.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise BTWCSC Food Justice interns and volunteers.
  • Promote healthy eating practices using farm fresh produce provided by BTWCSC.
  • Support cooking demonstrations using culturally-affirming, seasonal produce.
  • Complete Community Food Educator training with an emphasis on community engagement, using local and seasonal plants, and food handling and cooking techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Wellness Team, community-based organizations, local housing sites, and community residents from Western Addition, for the seamless facilitation of food service and/or distribution programs.
  • Assist in the coordination of program logistics - sourcing, transportation, distribution and delivery for food, prepared meals and produce.
  • Support data tracking and entry for all participants/clients, and completing program monitoring activities administrative tasks as needed, while ensuring data privacy and client confidentiality.
  • Track record or connection to targeted neighborhoods of Fillmore/Western Addition.
  • Communicate effectively with agency staff, clients, youth and volunteers.
  • Complete and obtain Food Safety Certification, Community Food Educator training, and HIPAA Certification.
  • Set-up, maintain and complete offsite grocery pop-ups and food distribution.
  • Support administrative tasks and program monitoring activities as needed by BTWCSC Senior Manager of Food Sovereignty and Food Justice Coordinator.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
