About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, the Community Liaison serves as a contact between the school and the community. This role assists with extracurricular school programs and performs clerical duties to support school operations related to community relations. Positions assigned to this class may be found in various school settings, including the office, classroom, playground, and media center. Incumbents are expected to possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Assigned duties encompass a wide range of supportive tasks for the general operation of the school. The example list of duties is a partial list of representative tasks for positions in this class, and incumbents may perform only some of these duties depending on the school site.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Basic methods used in overseeing and directing children’s activities.
  • Basic methods used in overseeing and directing adult volunteer programs.
  • Basic arithmetic concepts.
  • General purposes and goals of public education.
  • Ability to tutor individual and small groups of students and adults, reinforcing instruction in an assigned learning environment.
  • Understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, parent and staff information.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and use instructional support equipment.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • NCLB Certification required in one of three ways: 1) Possession of an Associates Degree (AA); 2) Completion of 48 college semester units (official transcripts required); or 3) Completion and passage of the District-approved NCLB proficiency test.
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Some experience working in a community role and working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and implement school community programs.
  • Design and assist in the implementation of the parent education program with the principal.
  • Assist the principal with school community issues as they arise.
  • Develop and organize the school’s Parent Volunteer Program(s).
  • Organize classroom parent helper program.
  • Assist with during- and after-school educational programs.
  • Prepare instructional materials by measuring, cutting, coloring, assembling, pasting and laminating.
  • Coordinate student activities with student groups.
  • Assist in developing the school safety program.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
