About The Position

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) has an opening for one (1) Part-Time Community Kitchen Porter to assist in the management of the community kitchen facility. This role involves overseeing the kitchen, maintaining a safe and positive environment, performing deep cleaning and maintenance, and supporting food entrepreneurs. The position also requires ensuring compliance with health regulations, supporting business growth, and representing CHLDC professionally to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Flexible availability, particularly early morning, evenings and weekends.
  • Relevant facilities maintenance experience required.
  • Knowledge of NYC business regulatory environment.
  • Valid NYC DOH Food Handlers License.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Proficiency in navigating Google Workspace and basic email management.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and office procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial kitchen equipment maintenance expertise preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Bengali, or Mandarin) preferred.
  • Willing to acquire a valid Food Handlers Certificate within the first 2 months.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Cypress Hills East New York Community Kitchen when the Director is not present.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, professional and cooperative working environment in the kitchen and community center consistent with agency values and expectations.
  • Provide deep cleaning and maintenance for the Community Kitchen during scheduled shifts.
  • May include washing dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment, sweeping, mopping, restocking of inventory, disposing of trash and other general cleaning tasks.
  • Accurately follow opening and closing procedures for the Community Kitchen and potentially community center which includes equipment maintenance, cleaning community kitchen, restocking of inventory, and locking/unlocking of center doors, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with NYC Department of Health and other regulations in the facility at all times.
  • Support food entrepreneurs with equipment use and access during their shifts.
  • Support effective relationships with all CHLDC Divisions for the purpose of supporting businesses and building economic growth in Cypress Hills / ENY.
  • Ensure the safe and ethical operation of the Community Kitchen program.
  • Represent CHLDC professionally to all stakeholders including elected officials, city agencies, houses of worship, and all community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
  • Other assignments, as requested.
