About The Position

The Virtual Nurse (VRN) is an experienced Registered Nurse and integrated care team member who uses technology to collaborate with and support bedside RNs and patients and families virtually at Big Rapids, Greenville, and Fremont. Two-way audio/visual technology enables the virtual nurse to assist with admission and discharge activities, patient and family education, real-time patient quality and safety surveillance, proactive rounding, and staff mentoring and education. The position uses the skills of an experienced RN to support and transfer knowledge to novice nurses and provide high-quality remote nursing care in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures.

The VRN delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably in accordance with American Nurses Association standards and Michigan law. The role demonstrates competency through the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse upholds professional performance standards, pursues optimal outcomes, and practices in a manner that supports ethical and culturally congruent care, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.

Candidates must live within one hour of Corewell Hospitals in Big Rapids, Greenville, or Fremont, and must maintain an active bedside nursing role in addition to this virtual position. The position is part-time, scheduled for 16 hours per week, with day hours of 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and variable workdays.

Requirements

• Must be located within one hour of Corewell Hospital locations in Big Rapids, Greenville, or Fremont.
• Must maintain an active bedside nursing role in addition to the virtual position.
• Associate degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required within five years.
• At least two years of adult medical-surgical or adult ICU experience required.
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
• Additional certifications may be required by the home clinical department.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with and support bedside RNs and patients and families virtually using two-way audio/visual technology.
• Assist with admission and discharge activities.
• Provide patient and family education.
• Conduct real-time patient quality and safety surveillance and proactive rounding.
• Mentor and educate staff, including supporting and transferring knowledge to novice nurses.
• Deliver nursing care in accordance with ANA standards, Michigan law, and Corewell Health policies and procedures.
• Use the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Uphold professional performance standards and strive for optimal outcomes.
