Requirements

  • Three years as a Community Health Nurse (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or Four years of community health nursing experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure case investigations and surveillance for reportable diseases using approved systems and manuals
  • Direct clinical practices and guide staff in delivering public health services
  • Plan and direct clinical services, emergency response activities, and community initiatives
  • Lead community health assessments to identify priorities and address local needs
  • Direct staff in working with agencies, schools, and health professionals to support public health initiatives
  • Represent the department on committees and advocate for public health programs
