This role involves performing all duties of a DSP 1, ensuring the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals. The position focuses on assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, while upholding their personal rights and facilitating activities that provide social capital and connections to the community. The DSP 2 ensures health, wellness, and safety by providing appropriate supervision in various settings, supporting individuals with varying levels of need according to their individualized service and behavior support plans, and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies. This role takes the lead during crisis situations, deescalating issues and directing DSP 1s while adhering to policies and regulations. The DSP 2 ensures the implementation of person-centered plans, including protective oversight and Behavior Support Plans, and models professionalism by prioritizing duties with limited direction and maintaining a positive, supportive demeanor. The position requires maintaining a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment, utilizing safe handling procedures, and implementing infection control protocols. The DSP 2 assists with personal care, ADLs, medication administration, skill development, advocacy, communication, and dispute resolution. They also facilitate ethical decision-making, supervise meal preparation, transport individuals, assist with purchases and fund safeguarding, and utilize specialized clinical knowledge to support individuals and inform activities and training. The role involves implementing Behavior Support Plans, collecting and summarizing data, observing and reporting changes in behavior, and reporting facility concerns. The DSP 2 is a member of a highly effective team, providing feedback, communicating programmatic needs, and maintaining a solution-oriented approach. They communicate concerns to supervisors and leadership, and liaise with circles of support, including families and external providers. The position requires completing and maintaining all necessary trainings and certifications, reviewing communication logs, and entering data into electronic health records. The DSP 2 completes and maintains all required paperwork and documentation for compliance and billing, uses foundational teaching skills, and actively participates in team meetings. They utilize approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques for challenging behaviors, potentially providing training to less experienced staff. The role may involve providing coverage for other direct support staff, including at other locations, and complying with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA. The DSP 2 may also assist with administrative tasks, participate in the implementation of changes, prepare monthly summaries, participate in life plan meetings, and guide less experienced staff in documentation. For certain assignments, operating a YAI motor vehicle may be required. All other duties as assigned.
