Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in local or state government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs, preferably in the data center industry or industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of local government structures in the U.S. (state, county, township, and municipal levels)
  • Experience working in and/or engaging with state and local-level government and regulatory bodies on data center and infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with local-level energy policies, tax incentives, and environmental regulations affecting data centers and Bitcoin mining.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Experience in lobbying, stakeholder engagement, or coalition-building at the state and local level.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
  • Team player and ability to closely collaborate with legal, compliance, and business teams on policy and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute state and local government engagement strategies in Ohio where Bitdeer operates or will operate, to build and maintain a strong network with elected officials, regulators, economic development agencies, and public utility commissions.
  • Monitor, assess and influence state and local level policy, regulatory developments and legislation affecting taxation and incentives, permitting and zoning decisions, electricity grid policies, environmental standards and data center development for cryptocurrency mining and AI.
  • Partner with internal legal, business, and policy teams to mitigate permitting and policy risks and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
  • Support project teams to navigate permitting and approval processes
  • Work with state and local-level trade associations and business chambers to advocate for policy positions that promote blockchain adoption, AI infrastructure development, and sustainable energy solutions for data centers
  • Represent the company in public-private dialogues, regulatory hearings, local council meetings, community engagements and legislative consultations to help shape policy formulation.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to align with Bitdeer’s business objectives.
  • Lead community outreach efforts to support project development
  • Identify, map and execute stakeholder management plan which involve community leaders, advocacy groups, local businesses, schools and local organizations
  • Build long-term relationships with community influencers and coalition partners
  • Represent the company at public hearings, town halls, and community meetings
  • Develop messaging with Public Relations team to communicate project benefits (jobs, tax revenue, infrastructure investment)
  • Represent the company in local media opportunities where relevant
  • Manage third-party consultants and community engagement firms where needed
  • Anticipate and respond to opposition, media scrutiny, and community concerns through monitoring local public sentiment and local ballot initiatives, referendums, and public campaigns
  • Develop proactive strategies in coordination with internal teams to reduce conflict and reputational risk and align on messaging
  • Support communications during sensitive project phases
  • Work closely with internal departments (project development, legal, communications, and government relations) and leadership to provide local insights to inform business decisions and project timelines
  • Ensure alignment between community engagement and project execution
