About The Position

The Community Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing program support and prevention services for families led by a parent who experiences a cognitive limitation. Services focus on child development, parent education, and coordination of services/activities for members of the household. This role involves supporting teaching and family supports to ensure high-quality intervention, while upholding the Agency's core values of stewardship, compassion, integrity, and equity.

Requirements

  • Step 6 in the Oregon Registry or have a professional development plan outlining steps to be taken to achieve Step 6 or Qualified teacher through DELC
  • One year of experience working in Early Childhood Education with young children
  • State of Oregon Driver's License and valid vehicle insurance
  • Registered in the Central Background Check, Current First Aid and CPR card, Food Handler's Card, Annual Mandatory Reporter/Child Abuse and Neglect training.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of indicators and effects of maltreatment, abuse and neglect on children, nutrition, health, safety, and special needs
  • Learn and apply Strength Base, Trauma Informed practices, and Positive Support Practices
  • Ability to work with adults who have a variety of stresses/challenges
  • Knowledge of the community/county resources
  • Demonstrate good stress management and self-care skills.
  • Ability to relate to diverse at-risk children and families with sensitivity and respect.
  • Ability to be flexible in schedule of work hours and days, in order to best meet the needs of children/families.
  • Knowledge and competent use of the internet, email, and word processing programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and share information on a need-to-know basis only.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergent situations.
  • Model a positive attitude toward work.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure workflow and/or procedures are kept up-to-date for owned tasks
  • Maintain all safety protocols and techniques within the workplace
  • Maintain an accurate daily record on timesheet of hours worked
  • Act responsive and engaged with developing a positive work environment which includes providing honest, respectful and direct feedback to other staff, participating in team meetings, team development, personal training plans, respecting diversity and differences among staff, clients and stakeholders.
  • Assessment of new referrals and enrollment
  • Provide support and direction to ensure family needs and goals are met.
  • Provide information regarding access to community resources
  • Work through crisis situations guiding positive outcomes with/without program staff
  • Screen children and family dynamics, provide responsive supports to parents and children,
  • Use approved child development curriculum with each family to promote positive parent-child relationships
  • Support parenting classes, support group, and family events.
  • Provide respite and classroom support up to 25 hours a week
  • Provide wrap around services building a bridge from home to preschool for positive relationships
  • Completes 25 hours of yearly training
  • Other duties as assigned by manager
