About The Position

Karat is hiring a Community Engineer for its Brilliant Black Minds (BBM) team. BBM connects a community of more than 11,000 diverse software engineers with networks, opportunities, and technical interview preparation. The role drives BBM’s technical evolution by building AI-powered tools, automations, and community experiences. It is approximately 70% hands-on engineering and 30% community program management, and the successful candidate will be the program’s sole engineer while remaining closely engaged with community members. The engineer will lead projects from design through release, build and maintain services, components, and APIs, integrate LLM capabilities into interview preparation, and use AI-assisted development in their workflow. They will also build operational tooling and automations, manage day-to-day community activities, and identify and deliver solutions to community needs. The position is fully remote but is currently open only to candidates residing in Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, or Washington. Immigration sponsorship is not available. Salary depends on geographic tier: GeoLo 2 is $139,556.70–$162,112.50; GeoLo 3 is $124,050.40–$144,100; and GeoLo 4 is $108,544.10–$126,087.50.
