About The Position

The Community Engagement Specialist is dedicated to fostering strong community relations by providing responsive, innovative, and effective services to residents and businesses. This role focuses on engaging community members, addressing their needs, and promoting City programs and services. The specialist acts as a liaison between the community and City departments, ensuring open communication, transparency, and community-driven solutions. The Community Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing community trust, engagement, and satisfaction with city services. Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Social Work, Urban Planning, or a related field
A minimum of three years of experience working community outreach, public engagement, or a related area.
Valid North Carolina drivers license
Available to attend night and weekend meetings and community events across the City on a regular basis as needed.
Knowledge of neighborhood improvement strategies, problem-solving, and conflict resolution techniques, and urban planning principles.
Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations and ordinances.
Skill in research and analyze facts while exercising sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and following through on multiple projects simultaneously without close supervision.
Ability to learn the operations, policies, and procedures of the various City departments, and the location and characteristics of neighborhoods within the City.
Ability to display exceptional interpersonal skills.
Ability to prepare clear, concise, reports and recommendations.
Ability to operate a personal computer and related office technology.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, residents, general public, and other City employees and officials.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement community outreach strategies to build relationships and enhance community involvement.
Organize and facilitate community meetings, forums, and events to gather input and feedback on City programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and residents to promote City programs and services.
Serve as a primary point of contact for community members seeking assistance or information about City services.
Address and resolve concerns and complaints by coordinating with appropriate City departments and providing timely responses.
Advocate for residents' needs and ensure their voices are heard in city planning and decision-making processes.
Design and manage programs that address community needs, promote civic engagement, and enhance quality of life.
Monitor program effectiveness and gather data to report on outcomes and impact.
Identify opportunities for new initiatives and partnerships to benefit the community.
Develop and distribute informational materials, newsletters, and updates to keep the community informed about City services, events, and initiatives.
Utilize social media, the City website, and other digital platforms to engage with the community and promote City activities.
Maintain accurate records of community interactions, feedback, and program participation.
Work closely with other City departments to ensure a coordinated approach to community services and problem-solving.
Participate in inter-departmental teams and task forces to address issues affecting the community.
Represent the City at public meetings, community events, and other forums as needed.
