About The Position

Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to join their Community Engagement Team. This role involves working with the team and CHI Member Tenants to foster sustainable communities through managing national and local initiatives. The specialist will proactively seek feedback from tenants on community engagement efforts and CHI's services. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, interact empathetically with tenants and colleagues, and be passionate about CHI's mission, always acting in the organization's best interests. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position requiring 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with some evening and weekend work expected. The role is mobile, requiring travel to CHI's housing developments nationwide, and is based at the Limerick Regional Office Member Services Hub. CHI offers hybrid working, with regular onsite presence and occasional visits to other CHI offices required.

Requirements

  • A third-level qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Community Development, Community Leadership, Co-operative Development etc.).
  • Relevant voluntary or paid work experience in the community sector.
  • Knowledge of tenant participation, statutory bodies, and experience accessing funding streams for community development.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to own car.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently using own initiative.
  • Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including digital and social media experience.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to deal with problems/enquiries in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.
  • High comfort level in preparing for and facilitating groups.
  • Legally permitted to work in Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Community Engagement strategy.
  • Collaborate with other CHI departments to ensure Member Tenant participation at all organizational levels.
  • Develop and coordinate initiatives and projects that allow Member Tenants to voice their opinions, engage in community activities, and influence decision-making and service provision.
  • Support Member Tenants in communities to establish and maintain Member Associations (Resident Groups).
  • Facilitate community meetings and consultations with Member Tenants.
  • Compose or contribute to internal and external publications and update the Member Tenants Social Media Page.
  • Create and sustain partnerships with third parties to run local and national initiatives and training programs tailored to Member Tenant needs.
  • Seek external funding opportunities for community engagement activities.
  • Identify training needs and communities of interest for Member Tenants and facilitate their delivery, either in person or online.
  • Promote and manage applications to the Co-operative Housing Ireland Member Tenant Community Fund, providing support throughout the process.
  • Actively research new and innovative approaches to engaging with and investing in CHI Member Tenants and their communities.
  • Represent CHI at internal and external meetings and events.
  • Deliver presentations on behalf of CHI regarding Community Engagement.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and submit detailed reports to the Line Manager and Director.
  • Provide content for the Member Tenant newsletter.
  • Undertake additional relevant duties as required by the Organisation.
