About The Position

AECOM's West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a Community Engagement Specialist II to assist with public outreach and communications for projects in Wisconsin and around the country. This will be a hybrid position which requires three days a week in-office at our Milwaukee, WI location.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Communications or a related field + 2 years of public relations and/or related communications experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in or supporting the transportation/engineering/infrastructure industry.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in a communications, community engagement or stakeholder engagement position.
  • Experience with or enthusiasm for learning new tools that enhance virtual collaboration and communication with stakeholders and the public.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools and ability to assist in the preparation of graphics and layouts when needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within company.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) with experience translating collateral materials.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Project Managers on strategies, best practices, and potential risks associated with engaging stakeholders and the public for input on projects.
  • Contributes to the development of communications and public outreach plans with innovative strategies to increase community engagement and participation in projects.
  • Identifies and maps key stakeholders and community profiles for client projects.
  • Develops themes, core messages and collateral for multiple audiences and stakeholders, including digital users, the media, local communities, statutory bodies, technical groups, and elected representatives.
  • Works on community engagement and communication activities and implements outreach campaign strategies with little supervision and within budget.
  • Coordinates with other staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for public information.
  • Creates presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
  • Engages and informs stakeholders, communities, and residents on public or private projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.
  • Drafts content for press releases, social media, websites, e-newsletters, stakeholder communications, fact sheets, and other materials for review by the Project Manager.
  • Plans and executes in-person and virtual events and public meetings, including overseeing logistics and materials as well as evaluating and selecting venues and vendors.
  • Provides acute attention to detail in the development and tracking of stakeholder communications.
  • Manages stakeholder and public feedback and monitors communications channels.
  • Develops surveys, analyzes feedback, and manages delivery of engagement reports summarizing public outreach efforts.
  • Performs a self-check of work prior to submitting to others for review.
  • Exercises sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.
  • Completes other tasks as directed by the Project Manager to support public outreach during the planning and design phases for projects underway in the community.
