About The Position

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is seeking a passionate Community Engagement Manager with strong community connections and a commitment to climate justice. This role will lead ICA’s engagement and outreach strategy through various methods, including online, distance, and in-person approaches. The position is remote (work from home) with regular travel within Canada and occasional international travel. ICA focuses on inspiring action by developing tools and opportunities created with, by, and for Indigenous communities to uplift Indigenous voices, sovereignty, and stewardship of the lands and waters. The goal is to support thriving cultures, healthy Indigenous peoples, and a balanced climate.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of community organizing and partnership building experience.
  • Existing community relationships relevant for supporting Indigenous-led climate solutions across Canada.
  • Experience overseeing staff and contractors.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and hosting community gatherings.
  • Strong working knowledge of budgets, including building, tracking, and reporting on expenses.
  • Proficient with computers and navigating online software and communication systems (e.g., Zoom, Slack, Signal, Google Suite, Asana, CRM platforms).
  • Proven success in creating and implementing effective strategies for community engagement and network building.
  • Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and structures that challenge systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism.
  • Broad-based knowledge of climate and environmental websites, social media sites, newsletters, list serves, etc.
  • Comfortable building new relationships and navigating diverse opinions and tensions within communities.
  • Familiar with the values of anti-oppression and creating inclusive spaces.
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Having a working computer and strong internet access is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies to nurture relationships with First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities across Canada.
  • Gather stories, insights, and feedback from communities through surveys, questionnaires, interviews, webinars, and gatherings to inform ICA programming.
  • Collaborate with campaign, communications, and program teams to develop strategies, processes, tools, and resources that meet the needs of frontline communities.
  • Work with the communications team to amplify frontline community stories and calls to action via ICA newsletters, website, and social media.
  • Lead and support the planning of special events, including community gatherings, donor/volunteer appreciation events, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist with engaging ICA’s internal network, including staff, National Steering Committee, Board of Directors, and Youth Leadership Council.
  • Attend external events to promote ICA programming to Indigenous community members, broader community partners, and funders.
  • Build and steward ICA’s contact lists using best practices to support program promotion and delivery.
  • Nurture new and existing relationships with ICA partners, including frontline communities.
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, and appearances, to promote ICA and build strategic relationships.
  • Assist with recruitment strategies for ICA’s hiring and human resources needs.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 depending on qualifications
