About The Position

Anthropic is seeking a Community Engagement Manager in Canada to join its Public Policy team. This role will serve as Anthropic's on-the-ground presence in communities where data centres are sited, built, and operated. The primary focus is on building relationships to make Anthropic a trusted, visible, and valued neighbor throughout the lifecycle of data centre projects. The Community Engagement Manager will act as a liaison between Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams and local stakeholders, including officials, community organizations, economic development partners, and residents. Key responsibilities include surfacing concerns, translating technical plans into local benefits, and building coalitions to facilitate rapid and responsible progress. This role will also contribute to developing the company's community engagement playbook for future expansion. The position requires regular travel within the region (up to 50%) and occasional travel to other Anthropic data centre markets.

Requirements

  • Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, municipal or provincial government, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience working for or engaging with municipal governments (elected councils and administration) and provincial government on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
  • Working understanding of local politics and community dynamics.
  • Skilled relationship and coalition builder who earns trust with diverse stakeholders and maintains relationships through difficult conversations.
  • Ability to represent a company credibly in public settings (town halls, hearings, press interviews).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex operational plans into plain language.
  • Ability to work independently, quickly learn complex policy issues, and manage multiple concurrent engagements across different markets.
  • Based in Alberta, Canada or willing to relocate there.
  • Prepared to travel regularly across the region.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of experience in community engagement specifically on data centre, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government.

  • Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations in the markets this role covers.
  • Experience working with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams simultaneously.
  • A genuine interest in the communities where you work.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain trusted, sustained relationships with municipal governments, provincial ministers and agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners.
  • Develop and execute a community engagement strategy for each market, covering site selection, pre-development, construction, and operations.
  • Build external coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local solutions that deliver real benefits to communities.
  • Represent Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media.
  • Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising internal teams on risks, opportunities, and engagement strategies.
  • Partner with the Real Estate and Infrastructure team to integrate community input into project planning and delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop proactive, locally relevant messaging.
  • Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments, including managing nonprofit partner relationships.
