Community Engagement Manager, Data Centers (Texas)

AnthropicAustin, TX
$265,000 - $295,000Hybrid

About The Position

Anthropic is seeking a Community Engagement Manager in Texas to join its Public Policy team. This role will serve as Anthropic's on-the-ground representative in communities where data centers are sited, built, and operated. The primary focus is on building relationships to make Anthropic a trusted, visible, and valued neighbor throughout the lifecycle of data center projects, from site selection to long-term operations. The Community Engagement Manager will act as a liaison between Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams and local stakeholders, including officials, community organizations, economic development partners, and residents. This role involves identifying and addressing concerns, translating technical plans into local benefits, and building coalitions for responsible and efficient project development. As Anthropic's infrastructure footprint is in its early growth stages, this position will also play a key role in developing the company's community engagement playbook and processes for future expansion. The role requires regular travel within the region (up to 50%) and occasional travel to other Anthropic data center markets.

Requirements

  • Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local or regional government, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience working for or engaging with local governments and a broad set of community stakeholders on behalf of large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
  • Working understanding of local politics and community dynamics.
  • Skilled relationship and coalition builder who earns trust with diverse stakeholders and maintains relationships through difficult conversations.
  • Ability to represent a company credibly in public settings (town halls, hearings, press interviews).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex operational plans into plain language.
  • Ability to work independently, quickly grasp complex policy issues, and manage multiple concurrent engagements across different markets.
  • Based in Texas or willing to relocate there.
  • Prepared to travel regularly across the region.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of experience in community engagement specifically on data center, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government.
  • Familiarity with land use, zoning, and permitting processes at the local and regional level.
  • Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations in the markets this role covers.
  • Experience working with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams simultaneously.
  • A genuine interest in the communities where you work.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain trusted, sustained relationships with local elected officials, government agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners in the data center markets covered.
  • Develop and execute a community engagement strategy for each market, covering site selection, pre-development, construction, and ongoing operations.
  • Build external coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local solutions that deliver real benefits to the communities where Anthropic operates.
  • Represent Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media.
  • Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising internal teams on risks, opportunities, and appropriate engagement strategies.
  • Partner with the Real Estate and Infrastructure team to integrate community input into project planning, communication, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop proactive, locally relevant messaging.
  • Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments, including managing nonprofit partner relationships.
  • Partner with the Energy and Sustainability team to explain Anthropic's environmental stewardship approach and address questions regarding power, water, and land use.
  • Develop a community engagement playbook and scalable, repeatable processes for growing infrastructure footprint.
