The Community Engagement Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring in building mutually beneficial connections with the community to secure monetary, in-kind, and volunteer resources for humanitarian immigrant clients. The role helps strengthen the office’s ability to meet newcomer client needs through community outreach, volunteer programming, event support, communications, partnership tracking, and in-kind donation coordination. The internship offers exposure to programs for refugees and asylees, cross-cultural communication with clients, and reporting requirements and data practices used to improve services. This is an unpaid, in-person internship based at the Silver Spring office. Spring 2027 interns are expected to attend an in-person orientation on January 25, 2027, from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The posting gives conflicting weekly commitment figures: it first specifies a minimum of 20 hours per week, then states a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week and a minimum of 15 hours per week for in-person work. Some weeknight and weekend availability is required. Eligible Spring 2027 interns may receive $15 per day in per diem reimbursement to offset food and travel costs.
