About The Position

We are an FQHC community health center dedicated to embodying the values central to American Indian cultures. The Community Engagement Coordinator (Tobacco Cessation Program) supports the implementation of SDAIHC’s California Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP) Grant (25-10310). This role carries out culturally grounded community engagement, cessation promotion, program outreach, coalition coordination, and educational media design to reduce tobacco use and increase access to cessation resources among AI/AN and partner communities. This position serves as SDAIHC’s primary community-facing representative, strengthening relationships with Tribal communities, partner organizations, and local stakeholders. Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Health Promotion, this role ensures that all program activities meet CDPH/CTPP requirements, follow the approved Scope of Work, and uphold SDAIHC’s cultural values, compliance standards, and organizational mission. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, health education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience in health education, community organizing, coalition building, or program coordination.
Strong communication skills, including public speaking, facilitation, and social media management.
CPR/ BLS certification: Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross, or an equivalent organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills assessment. Online-only certifications are not accepted.
Annual background checks: Consent to annual background checks as a condition of continued employment, to ensure compliance with organizational standards and eligibility requirements.
For-Cause Drug Screening: Comply with drug screening requirements when initiated by the organization for cause, to support a safe, compliant, and drug-free workplace.
Ongoing Compliance Requirements: Maintain up-to-date compliance with all required annual renewals, including professional licenses, certifications, physical examinations, TB testing, and mandatory regulatory trainings as assigned by the San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC).

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of commercial and traditional tobacco issues in Native communities preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with tribal communities, partners, and culturally diverse populations.
Familiarity with Community Health Clinics and/or Indian Health Clinics

Responsibilities

Attend and host community outreach events, including health fairs, cultural events, wellness gatherings, and community meetings, to promote tobacco cessation services.
Serve as an on-the-ground representative of the Tobacco Cessation Program within American Indian/Alaska Native and partner communities.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with community members, partner organizations, and stakeholders.
Promote awareness of cessation resources, including Kick It California and clinic-based services.
Assist with facilitating weekly, evidence-based cessation classes and group education sessions.
Support delivery of culturally responsive tobacco prevention and cessation education.
Distribute cessation materials and quit kits during outreach and education activities in accordance with established program protocols.
Collect participation information and assist with gathering surveys or sign-in sheets as directed.
Assist with coordinating and supporting coalition or committee meetings related to tobacco cessation.
Support meeting logistics, communication, and follow-up with coalition members.
Encourage coalition participation and engagement in program activities.
Promote cessation services through social media, newsletters, flyers, and educational materials.
Share project updates, events, and resources through community newsletters, websites, and outreach channels.
Assist with development and distribution of outreach and educational materials that are culturally appropriate and program-aligned.
Participate in statewide partner calls, trainings, and meetings as directed.
Coordinate closely with the Program Specialist to ensure outreach and engagement activities are accurately documented for program tracking.
Maintain confidentiality of participant and community information at all times.
Perform other community engagement and program support duties as assigned.
