About The Position
Providing employment obtainment and retention supports to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders. Employment activities and opportunities support the person’s interests, priorities, desires, and abilities towards the obtainment and retention of employment. Responsibilities with the person include guiding, supporting, teaching, monitoring the pathway of integrated employment success. In addition to the individual support; Vocational Specialists build and maintain professional relationships with community employers to develop opportunities utilizing “traditional,” or “customize / carve out” employment processes. The right candidate will need to have strong interpersonal skills, high energy, be creative, self-motivated, enjoy being “on the move,” knowledgeable of the surrounding communities and have a desire to support people to realize community integrated employment success. Additional responsibilities include carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in such a manner that fulfills CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies and procedures. Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Vocational Rehabilitation, or closely related field.
- Possession of an appropriate State of Michigan credential (i.e., LLBSW, LBSW, SSTR) or must have applied for and be able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- One year of professional work experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to communicate accurately and effectively both in writing and verbally.
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use.
- Ability to manage a flexible schedule designed around the support needs of Job Seekers.
- Expect to adjust work schedule to accommodate intermittent evenings and weekends.
- Must undergo and pass a Central Registry Clearance Check.
- Must pass a pre-employment 5-panel drug screen.
