About The Position

Supports the Activities & Community Education Director in planning, coordinating, and administrating Community Education enrichment and recreation programming while overseeing the operations of the district's Media Center as well as serving as a liaison between the school and the community. Promotes lifelong learning through quality programming, strong customer service, effective communication, and efficient management of district resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, Communications, Recreation, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in community education, libraries, education, program coordination, or a related field
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license, willingness to obtain Type III certification and drive district-owned vehicles as assigned
  • Understanding of community education philosophy and programming
  • Familiarity with library/media center operations
  • Knowledge of children's and young adult literature, information literacy principles, educational technology and digital resources
  • Understanding of marketing, public relations, customer service practices, Minnesota community education requirements, applicable district policies and state regulations
  • Experience with program planning and coordination
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Event planning skills
  • Proficiency with technology, including library management software, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and student information systems
  • Ability to problem solve, collaborate effectively, and balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, staff, and community members
  • Ability to analyze community needs and develop responsive programming

  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends to support programming and special events

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate community education programs for preschool, youth, adults, and senior citizens
  • Develop seasonal program offerings based on community interests and district priorities
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate community education instructors and volunteers
  • Coordinate facility scheduling for community education activities in collaboration with district administration
  • Monitor program revenues and expenditures and recommend program fees
  • Manage registration, participant records, contracts, and payments
  • Market community education programs through print, digital, and social media communications
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and agencies
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety requirements
  • Prepare reports related to enrollment, participation, finances, and program outcomes
  • Manage daily operations of the district media center serving PreK-12 students and staff
  • Maintain and organize library collections, digital resources, and instructional materials
  • Assist students and staff in locating, evaluating, and utilizing print and digital information resources
  • Coordinate circulation, acquisitions, cataloging, inventory, and weeding of library materials
  • Promote literacy and a culture of reading through displays, events, reading initiatives, and special programs
  • Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum and instructional resource needs
  • Assist with instructional technology resources utilized through the media center
  • Supervise media center student workers and volunteers as assigned
  • Maintain an inviting, organized, and safe learning environment
  • Develop positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate communication and promotional materials for assigned programs
  • Utilize district software systems to maintain accurate records and reports
