About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising and monitoring the day-to-day operation of a Community Center, including operating hours, facility maintenance, security, program development and promotion, and recreational activities. The Director ensures the center operates in compliance with The Salvation Army mission, policies, and procedures. Reporting to the Corps Officers, this role leads all aspects of the Community Center's business, fundraising, and programming operations, and supervises employees, volunteers, and seasonal employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or in Social Services, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Three years progressively responsible experience developing and implementing recreational programs with at least one year in a supervisory capacity, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Florida State Driver’s License
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to remain certified and become certified for job specific certifications.
  • Ability to maintain driver’s license and TSA insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees opening/closing of the Community Center in compliance with established operating hours and ensures the center is properly secured during non-operating hours.
  • Inspects facility on a regular basis to detect needed repairs in a timely manner and ensures that all center equipment is properly maintained and used by patrons to guarantee long life of equipment.
  • Oversees research, planning, development, scheduling, promotion, implementation, and monitoring of recreational programs and activities for all age groups based on the needs and interest of the local community.
  • Schedules, facilitates, and/or supervises activities occurring at the center such as sporting events, community outreach events, tutoring classes, adult education classes, senior programs, craft classes, games, field trips, after school programs, and summer camps.
  • Monitors activities hosted or conducted by outside groups.
  • Oversees the monitoring of all patrons visiting the Community Center to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, facility use agreement, and insurance requirements to ensure their safety.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of the operation to ensure the program progresses on schedule and within prescribed budgets in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Ensures that all employee timecards are completed accurately, signed by assigned supervisor and employee, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Develops and implements fund-raising activities to generate funds for programs in coordination with the Development department.
  • Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with the public and other community agencies and church groups to promote awareness of the Community Center activities.
