About The Position

The Colorado Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CCLPPP) is under the direction of the Deputy Director and supports primary and secondary prevention strategies for childhood lead poisoning prevention and surveillance. The purpose of this program is to develop surveillance capacity to aid in preventing, and ultimately, eliminating childhood lead poisoning as a major public health problem in Colorado. The program performs outreach and prevention strategies, including in-home environmental investigations to identify sources of lead when test results indicate high blood lead levels (BLLs). The program is responsible for ensuring blood lead testing and reporting, enhancing blood lead surveillance, improving linkages to recommended services and developing policies for targeted, population-based interventions with a focus on community-based approaches for lead hazard elimination. CCLPPP responsibilities include sustaining a statewide Lead Advisory Committee, maintaining a blood lead surveillance system that tracks all blood lead test results and follow-up data on children with elevated blood lead levels including environmental source investigations and referrals to recommended services, conducting analyses of surveillance data to identify lead-exposed children, high-risk populations, and geographic areas, and partnering with programs and organizations that provide services to mitigate the effects of elevated blood lead levels.
