About The Position

Texas Tool Belt is hiring Canvassers to support campaign, union, issue advocacy, and nonpartisan civic engagement programs. Movement Workers are the backbone of our field operations, engaging community members through direct, respectful, and goal-oriented conversations to build power, share accurate information, and increase participation. This role is ideal for individuals committed to democracy, worker power, community advocacy, and human-to-human engagement.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 30+ hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Flexible schedule; shifts may change with short notice based on program needs.
  • Strong listening skills and ability to lead structured conversations with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and within a highly organized team structure
  • Comfort canvassing alone and during early evening hours.
  • Access to a charged smartphone capable of running field data applications, like MiniVan
  • Ability to meet performance benchmarks (doors knocked, quality conversations, data accuracy)
  • Willingness to work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and improve performance
  • Ability to adjust work practices using performance metrics and coaching
  • Ability to work full shifts without set breaks
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance required
  • Basic navigation and mapping skills using mobile apps

Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted door-to-door canvassing in assigned communities to engage voters, union members, and community residents in conversations related to: Voting and civic participation, Labor and union engagement, Issue advocacy and ballot initiatives, Nonpartisan voter education and outreach
  • Distribute educational, advocacy, or campaign materials accurately and professionally
  • Attend and participate in required trainings, briefings, and staff meetings
  • Accurately record field data (doors knocked, conversations, outcomes) using assigned tools
  • Provide daily reports and feedback to Field Managers
  • Identify field challenges and offer solutions or improvements
  • Uphold Texas Tool Belt’s values, professionalism, and community-centered approach
  • Perform other duties as assigned
