About The Position

The FNB Bastrop Community Banking Intern Program offers college students and recent graduates a comprehensive, hands-on experience in the core functions and mission of a community bank. This immersive program is designed to provide participants with a broad understanding of how a community bank operates, supports customers and businesses, and contributes to the economic growth and stability of its community. Throughout the program, interns will gain exposure to key departments and functions, guided by professional bankers who provide practical training, project assignments, and role-specific knowledge. Experiential learning includes rotations in Retail Banking, Lending, Credit Analysis, Finance & Accounting, Risk Management, Fraud Prevention & Security, and Wealth Management. Professional development includes workshops, social networking events, governmental and municipal council meetings, field trips, financial literacy, and community outreach activities. The program also features a capstone project on mergers and acquisitions, with interns presenting their findings to the executive team and board of directors.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in serving one’s community
  • Strong finance and accounting skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities or internship/work experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency using Microsoft Office applications to include Word and Excel, as well as other database application systems.
  • Identified as a Senior for Fall 2027 or recent graduate.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to key departments and functions within a community bank.
  • Receive practical training, project assignments, and role-specific knowledge from professional bankers.
  • Learn the fundamentals of customer service, account management, deposits, and daily branch operations in Retail Banking.
  • Understand the lending process from application to closing, including loan origination, underwriting, and relationship management.
  • Develop analytical skills by reviewing financial statements and credit underwriting presentations.
  • Assist in financial reporting, budgeting, and other projects to understand financial health and performance.
  • Learn how banks identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
  • Gain insight into controls and systems used to protect customers and the Bank from fraud, cybersecurity threats, and financial crimes.
  • Learn how professional financial planners serve customers to meet long-term financial goals.
  • Participate in workshops, social networking events, governmental and municipal council meetings, field trips, financial literacy, and community outreach activities.
  • Complete a capstone project on mergers and acquisitions, presenting findings to the executive team and board of directors.

Benefits
