About The Position

The Environmental Justice Office at DNREC is seeking a Community Assistance Provider to support outreach and community capacity building in Kent and Sussex Counties. This is primarily a field position that will document neighborhood-based community institutions such as houses of worship, social service organizations, and small businesses. The Community Assistance Provider will identify and attend recurring community meetings, participate in neighborhood-based community events, and support the department’s meaningful engagement efforts. The position will also support EJO evaluation and coordination for the Community Environmental Project Fund.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One year experience in providing guidance and consultation to customers and others on accessing resources and understanding processes
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Six months experience in public speaking or interpretation.
  • Knowledge of conducting field work to collect survey data
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in oral and written proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian.

Responsibilities

  • Creates formatted documents, generates and shares presentations, develops and manages spreadsheets, and maintains information in databases.
  • Assist in the development and posting of materials to social media sites.
  • Coordinates timely and accurate responses and information to citizens, community groups or governmental agencies.
  • Reviews, processes, and evaluates information for completeness, accuracy, and conformity with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Resolves discrepancies, deficiencies in information, or other issues.
  • Coordinates and conducts public meetings, media events or educational programs.
  • Evaluates and recommends agency events, programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.
