Willowfork Fire Community Ambassador Volunteer
About The Position
Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 2 (“District”) is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Community Ambassador Volunteer (Community Ambassador). The Willowfork Fire Department, under the guidance and support of Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 2 began operation on January 1, 2003, operating out of a temporary station with four (4) part-time firefighters on duty twenty-four (24) hours a day. Today, we operate out of three (3) stations staffing three (3) pumpers, a tower, and a Battalion Chief. We are currently staffed with sixteen (16) firefighters on duty at all times. In 2022 the department served approximately seventy-five thousand (75,000) people and responded to over two thousand, four hundred (2,400) calls for assistance. EMS service is provided by Fort Bend County EMS who staffs a medic unit at Station 1 and Station 3 with an EMS Battalion Chief located at Station 2. The Willowfork Fire Department responds as first responder to EMS calls and works alongside of EMS providing quality patient care. The Community Ambassador is an At-Will position and will report to the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Specialist and/or the Deputy Chief (or the designee), based on operational needs and the assigned volunteer duties. The designated supervisor will provide direction, task assignments, and oversight for volunteer activities.
Requirements
- Must be actively engaged in authorized non-firefighting roles and activities
- Tasks must contribute to community outreach, public education delivery, public events support, or approved administrative assistance
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have reliable transportation to volunteer assignments (stations/events/meetings).
- Must be comfortable performing administrative tasks (data entry, filing, making calls/emails, printing, stuffing packets, etc.)
- Must be comfortable interacting with the public at community outreach events (answering basic questions, handing out materials, representing the department professionally)
- Able to follow directions from assigned supervisors (CRR Specialist and/or Deputy Chief or designee) and work as part of a team.
- Able to maintain confidentiality (e.g., not sharing private information you may see/hear while volunteering)
- Must be willing to wear required volunteer identification/attire when assigned
- Have access to email and a smartphone for schedule updates and communications
- Must have the ability to communicate respectfully with diverse community members and follow a harassment-free workplace standard
Responsibilities
- Assist in Fire and Life Safety initiatives
- Assist with community events
- Support public education and school outreach activities
- Support department activities such as Station Tours, Open House, Safety Presentations
- Assist with administrative and clerical tasks
Benefits
- Stipend of $20.00 per four (4) hour “event” (includes meetings, public relations events and training)
- Stipends are distributed on a bi-annual schedule
