About The Position

The Community Alliance Intern supports the team by building trusted relationships across local communities and advocating for both the Food Allergy Community and the Food Allergy Institute (FAI). This role provides hands-on experience in community outreach, event coordination, and public advocacy. By serving as a visible, empathetic advocate, the intern will help educate families, raise awareness for the Tolerance Induction Program (TIP), and expand our community footprint. This position requires approximately 50% local travel throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. The ideal candidate is mission-driven, enthusiastic, and eager to learn how to connect with families and community organizations. They thrive in a dynamic environment, are highly organized, and are ready to tackle both administrative event preparation and face-to-face community advocacy.

Requirements

High School Diploma required.
Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally up to 50% of the time.
Strong attention to detail, specifically regarding inventory management, event packing, and logistical prep.
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills; comfortable engaging empathetically with parents, educators, campus leaders, medical professionals, and business operators.
Familiarity with social media platforms and event management tools.
Self-starter mentality with the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, Public Health, Business, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in customer service, campus involvement, volunteering, advocacy, or event coordination is a plus.
A strong interest in community advocacy and a basic understanding of pediatric food allergies.

Responsibilities

Represent the Food Allergy Institute and advocate for the food allergy community through regular travel across Los Angeles and Orange County.
Help identify, connect with, and present to diverse audiences, including educators, early childhood development centers, K-12 schools, PTAs, colleges, medical offices, and community groups, to expand FAI's regional footprint.
Assist with the end-to-end logistical preparation for field events, including researching, securing, organizing, and distributing promotional swag, brochures, and educational materials.
Assist the team in training the community through our EMSA Approved EAI (Epinephrine Auto-Injector) Program.
Support the execution of awareness campaigns, school/college staff trainings, anaphylaxis response days, and parent info nights.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of in-person and virtual events designed to raise awareness, educate families, and build strong community ties.
Support the daily monitoring and engagement of The Pantry Facebook group, helping to foster a safe, supportive online environment for food allergy families.
Work alongside the marketing and clinic teams to ensure consistent messaging and seamless event execution across all community touchpoints.
Assist in tracking event metrics, community meeting outcomes, and partnership developments.
