About The Position

The Community Accessibility Recreation Coordinator position performs professional work in planning, implementing, and overseeing adaptive and accessible recreational programs and services for individuals with physical, mental, emotional, or developmental disabilities. The position is responsible for assisting in the management of facility operations, supervising staff, interns, and volunteers, coordinating exhibits and special programs, and ensuring recreational activities meet the diverse needs of participants. The role also involves developing special needs programming and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This position reports to the Community Accessibility Recreation Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Recreation Administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of programming experience in the Recreation field.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental disabilities.
  • Professional Crisis Management (PCM) Certification.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and/or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification.
  • Additional two (2) years in lieu of an associate degree.
  • ACTCP (ADA Coordinator Training Certification Program) certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with managing a facility designed to support those with special needs that includes exhibits, programs and educational resources.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements recreational programs and activities tailored to individuals with special needs.
  • Serves as resource on local services and providers for the department and the community.
  • Organize events, outdoor activities, resource fairs, entertainment, and games for members and participants.
  • Support and assist with special programs like early intervention programs, parent trainings and youth/ adult enrichment workshops for individuals with special needs.
  • Serves on committees related to individuals with disabilities and attend workshops and seminars to stay updated on best practices and resources.
  • Conducts trainings and prepares and give presentations.
  • Promotes the program/facility through schools, organizations, and the broader community.
  • Trains and supervise staff, interns and volunteers on program activities.
  • Takes program registrations, facility reservations, and sells memberships.
  • Organize events, outdoor activities, resource fairs, entertainment, and games for members and participants.
  • Support and assist with special programs like the Special Olympics and workshops for individuals with special needs.
  • Serve on committees related to individuals with disabilities and attend workshops and seminars to stay updated on best practices and resources.
  • Conduct trainings and prepares and give presentations.
  • Assists with exhibit installations.
  • Promote the program/facility through schools, organizations, and the broader community.
  • Handles program and event registration money at the main location and, when assigned to other centers, assists with permit, ticket, merchandise, and membership sales.
