About The Position

The York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program is administered by Oak Valley Health (OVH). We provide a coordinated community based speech and language service for children, birth to school entry. The program engages in collaborative service delivery with other community agencies such as Early Intervention Services, the Children’s Treatment Network and the York-Simcoe Autism Network (YSAN). Flexibility to provide services across York Region and in a variety of settings (e.g., clinic, child care centres, entry to school programs, virtual) is required.

Requirements

Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
Valid driver’s license and access to a car
Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with a preschool speech and language program
Experience supporting families with children who have special needs
Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred

Responsibilities

Carrying a caseload of children under the supervision of Speech Language Pathologists
Providing group and paired therapy
Supporting families by offering daytime and evening caregiver workshops
Home, child care and community consultation visits
Providing consultative support to Entry to School Programs offered through YSAN
Supporting children with special needs
Preparation work - including boardmaker material, parent education material and therapy materials
General office support
