About The Position
The Communications Technician is responsible for the operation of the Transit Communication Center. This role involves receiving and transmitting messages via radio, telephone, and teletype, as well as receiving emergency calls for service and dispatching calls for service.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Must be 18 years or older
- Minimum of one year experience as transit service dispatcher or scheduler
- Possession of a valid class "C" Texas Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to demonstrate multi-tasking skills
- Effective verbal communications skills
- Ability to work different shifts
- Ability to respond to work on short notice when emergency situations arise
- Ability to listen, comprehend and apply information received simultaneously
- Ability to multi-task and handle stressful situations
- Ability to follow established guidelines/policies
- Ability to understand and apply the rules of confidentiality
- Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, using the English language
- Ability to work extended periods of time in a smoke free workplace
- Must pass background check
- Must pass pre-employment substance abuse screening
- Must successfully pass the DOT CDL physical exam
- Maintain a physical condition which allows completion of all assigned duties
- Motor vehicle record check will be required
Responsibilities

- Reporting for duty at the scheduled time when called in
- Attending in-service training courses as required
