About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Communication Tech 2 to join our team! This is a full-time position with a Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. This position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of security equipment, analog phone systems, intercom systems, and the interfaces between these systems at CMHI and the Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO). This position is also responsible for two-way radio equipment, overhead paging systems, patient emergency alarm systems, patient networks, audio-visual equipment, and other electronics such as TVs, DVD players, AM/FM radios, CD players, and video gaming systems. Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time work experience in telecommunication/radio system design, installation, or service.
  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in electronic technology equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Communications Technician 1.
