About The Position

STRS Ohio is seeking a Communications Strategist or Senior Communications Strategist to join the Executive/ Communications and Public Affairs team. STRS Ohio is one of the nation’s largest retirement systems, serving nearly 550,000 active, inactive, and retired public-school teachers, and university faculty members, managing approximately $96.3 billion in assets and paying more than $7 billion in benefits annually. The role involves assisting with developing and coordinating communication materials for internal and external audiences, writing, editing, and proofreading content, and supporting clear, accurate, accessible, and consistent communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field required.
  • Three or more years of related experience in communications, public relations, writing, editing or content development preferred.
  • Seven or more years of professional experience in communications, public relations, content development or a related field required.
  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) certification preferred.
  • Ability to gather information and translate technical or complex subject matter into clear, concise and audience-appropriate content for print, digital, presentation and internal communication channels.
  • Demonstrated skills to simplify complex information into clear, concise, audience-focused communications—including strategies, key messages, project plans and measurement methods—that advance business objectives.
  • Ability to conduct research, organize findings and prepare routine summaries, including audience feedback, communication metrics and other performance information.
  • Must be either a U.S. citizen or possess proper legal authorization to work in the U.S. for the type of job being sought.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with creating presentations, talking points, video scripts, news releases, social media content and other materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with the executive director, senior leadership team and organizational leaders to create presentations, talking points, video scripts, news releases, social media content and other materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop, edit and proofread clear, accurate and audience-focused content for print, digital, presentation and internal communication channels. Assist with translating technical or complex information into clear, concise communications.
  • Develop key messages and create, edit and proofread clear, accurate, audience-centered content for print, digital, presentation and executive communication channels.
  • Manage communication projects from intake through completion, coordinating scope, assignments, approvals, production, mailing logistics and follow-up to ensure timely delivery.
  • Assist with developing communication materials and project plans for programs, services and organizational initiatives. Collect audience feedback and communication metrics and prepare routine summaries.
