About The Position

The YMCA of Lincoln is looking for a creative, talented, and purpose-driven Communications Specialist to help share the stories, impact, and mission of the Y with our community. This role serves as a key communications resource for both our Marketing and Mission Advancement teams, creating compelling content that informs, inspires, and engages members, donors, volunteers, staff, and community partners. From donor communications and grant proposals to blogs, social media, fundraising campaigns, and organizational messaging, the Communications Specialist helps identify, develop, and share the stories that showcase the YMCA's impact and inspire people to engage, give, and get involved. Requirements

  • Approximately 2-5 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, content development, fundraising communications, or a related field
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Experience creating content for digital and print communication channels
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, email marketing tools, content management systems, Canva, and Adobe products
  • Ability to exercise creativity, sound judgment, and attention to detail

  • Nonprofit, fundraising, or mission-driven organization experience is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the YMCA's primary copywriter, creating and refining content for websites, blogs, social media, email marketing, advertising, press releases, member communications, and campaign materials
  • Developing compelling grant proposal content by researching community needs, program outcomes, and organizational impact
  • Writing donor communications, fundraising appeals, stewardship materials, impact reports, and other content that demonstrates the impact of philanthropic support
  • Identifying, developing, and sharing compelling stories that highlight YMCA programs, participants, staff, volunteers, donors, and community impact
  • Developing fundraising campaign messaging that communicates community needs and donor impact
  • Drafting speeches, presentations, scripts, talking points, and leadership communications
  • Managing and maintaining content resources, story libraries, testimonials, and communication assets
  • Supporting social media content development and audience engagement
  • Collaborating with Marketing, Mission Advancement, and YMCA leadership to support communication initiatives and organizational goals
  • Assisting with communication planning, editorial calendars, and content development across multiple channels
  • Researching communication trends, best practices, and emerging tools to enhance YMCA communications
