We are looking for a Communications Specialist who is first and foremost an exceptional storyteller. Someone who can take complex ideas, projects, and business initiatives and turn them into clear, engaging content that connects with people. This is an exciting opportunity to help tell the story of Indigenous economic development and one of the most ambitious portfolios in the country. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, creative thinker, and collaborative team player. They are curious, proactive, and always looking for new ways to engage audiences through compelling content and meaningful communications. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, this role supports communications across the organization, helping to inform, engage, and build trust with employees, community members, customers, residents, partners, investors, and the public.

  • 5-7 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, content creation, or a related field.
  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience creating content across multiple channels and formats.
  • Experience working with social media platforms, content management systems, and digital communications tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Photography, video, graphic design, or multimedia content creation skills are considered an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create compelling written content for social media, websites, newsletters, presentations, speeches, video scripts, and corporate communications.
  • Identify stories across Nch’ḵay̓'s businesses, projects, and partnerships and bring them to life through engaging content.
  • Translate complex business, development, and economic information into content that is clear, honest, and accessible.
  • Work closely with designers, photographers, videographers, and subject matter experts to develop content that reflects our values and voice.
  • Contribute creative ideas for campaigns, content series, and storytelling opportunities that grow awareness and engagement.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with Nch’ḵay̓'s brand standards.
  • Develop and deliver internal communications that keep employees informed, connected, and aligned.
  • Draft leadership messages, organizational updates, announcements, and employee communications.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and workplace culture.
  • Help ensure important information is communicated clearly across the organization.
  • Support media relations activities, including media monitoring, press releases, media inquiries, and interview coordination.
  • Develop communications materials for projects, partnerships, and business initiatives.
  • Assist with reputation management and issues communications planning.
  • Support the delivery of communications campaigns and public-facing initiatives.
  • Draft and distribute communications for Squamish Nation-facing initiatives, projects, announcements, and engagement opportunities.
  • Help translate business and development information into accessible communications for Squamish People.
  • Support community engagement activities through clear and thoughtful communications materials.
  • Ensure communications reflect the values, priorities, and interests of the Nation.
