The Communications Specialist role is for someone who understands that great communication is about connecting with an audience, making them feel understood, and empowering employees, valuing customers, and driving business success. Requirements

  • Solid experience in planning, a knack for problem solving and a gift for storytelling.
  • At least six (6) years of experience in a communications role.
  • A post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in communications or public relations.
  • Excellent planning skills with demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of guiding successful campaigns and plans.
  • History of strong research skills, superior writing, and the ability to produce flawless communications in plain language that meet audience needs.
  • Must include a cover letter to demonstrate writing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience with social media.
  • Accreditation from CPRS or IABC.
  • Experience with AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with business clients to understand strategic objectives and business challenges, then advise on communications solutions.
  • Develop and execute robust, strategic and measurable communications plans that achieve organizational goals.
  • Measure, analyze and report on the effectiveness of communications and projects.
  • Develop key messages and ensure they’re reflected in all deliverables.
  • Act as an internal consultant, responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships and providing strategic solutions to business problems.
  • Work closely with peers within business units and departments to ensure communication initiatives are aligned.
  • Create and edit content in a voice that reflects our brand, and is consistent with the Canadian Press Style Guide, the AMA Style Guide, and our editorial guidelines.
  • Support various company-wide communications channels, including social media, newsroom, online and print.
  • Identify opportunities to share strategic initiatives and outcomes with AMA staff.
  • Help ensure a consistent member and employee experience online and offline through integration between communications channels.
