About The Position

At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Large Mining Trucks and Construction Equipment. In this role as a Communications Specialist, you will report to the Senior Human Resources Manager and will be primarily responsible for creating employee communications content. You will participate in the planning and execution of employee communications programs within the organization. As a member of the Communications team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. Requirements

  • Communications related degree or equivalent experience desired
  • Copywriting and Editing: Knowledge of copywriting and editing; ability to write, review and edit texts and documents to promote marketing.
  • Internal Communications: Knowledge of techniques and media for internal communications; ability to produce and distribute news, newsletters and other communications materials targeted at the employees.
  • Business Effectiveness Measurement: Knowledge of effective measurement techniques and ability to measure the quality and quantity of work effort for the purpose of improvement.
  • Establishing and Maintaining Trust: Knowledge of developing and maintaining trust; ability to develop trusting relationships and provide solicited, respected and valued perspectives to clients/peers that guide thinking, facilitate issue resolution and enhance client/peer capabilities.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Communicating for Impact: Knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations.
  • Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
  • Multimedia Technologies: Knowledge of multimedia publishing technologies and procedures; ability to use installed audio, visual and animation software tools to produce multimedia publications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and advise on the suitability of approaches for communication efforts.
  • Track and analyze metrics to measure the effectiveness of internal communications.
  • Create content for employee communication channels; ensuring that messaging and branding are consistent across all channels.
  • Develop and distribute communications materials, such as written communications, presentation materials, etc. to deliver key messages.
  • All internal operations-facing communications are delivered by this role (start of shift, weekly newsletter, digital signs, Facebook, Viva Engage, All Employee Meetings, etc.)
  • Manage community partnerships
  • Misc. facility projects as assigned (branding, signage, video shoots, event planning, etc.)
