About The Position

The Philanthropies Department (PHI) helps to invite individuals and families to follow the example of the Lord, Jesus Christ, as they live the two great commandments to love God and their neighbors. Giving helps members and others experience the joy and blessings of participating in God's work as they choose to follow inspiration and prophetic direction. To do this, PHI facilitates and invites voluntary philanthropic giving (beyond tithes and fast offering) for programs and projects approved by the First Presidency. PHI teaches, engages, coordinates, invites, and reports regarding voluntary philanthropic contributions to the Church and its affiliated charities. Communication Specialist, Senior - Brand/Grants employees serve as a "grant writer/brand manager" providing exceptional marketing and communication materials in support of approved fundraising priorities. The expectation for all materials and activities is to facilitate, engage, invite, and create an exceptional giving experience that reflects the standard of the Kingdom of God in alignment with the divinely appointed mission and purpose of the Church. This position serves as a highly skilled individual contributor on the Marketing Communications team that provides exceptional marketing and communication materials in support of First Presidency approved fundraising priorities. The Communications Specialist, Senior - Brands/Grants is a senior role that supports the mission of the Church by serving as a caretaker for all grant-writing proposals/responses related to specific "brand(s)" (e.g., Missionary, BYU) as fundraising communications and materials are created for external donor audiences. The goal is to align creative marketing activities and materials with technical application requirements to help facilitate an inspiring giving experience for all involved. Teaching, engaging, coordinating, inviting, and stewarding are defined accountabilities in every project. The clients served include prospects, donors, institutional leaders, and Philanthropies (PHI) colleagues. This is a senior-level individual contributor.

Requirements

• Must uphold and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Church and its affiliated charities, be ethical, and demonstrate professional demeanor at all times and in all situations.
• A Bachelor's degree and 4 years compatible professional experience in communications or related field, and or any combination of equivalent relavant education and/or experience
• Be able to operate a personal computer in a network environment, proficiency with basic computer hardware/software, including the ability to use and learn job specific applications.
• Proven writing skills and a sound knowledge of print and electronic communications, including proficiency with computer and software tools (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, other design tools, etc.) including a sound understanding of graphic design.
• Be able to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
• A demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to clients including prospects, donors, institutional leaders, and Philanthropies (PHI) colleagues.
• Outstanding time management and organizational skills including a proven ability to follow-through with fine details.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, innovative thinking, and proven capacity to be self-motivated while positively inviting others to strive for their best performance.
• Professional in demeanor, appearance and language, with English verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to provide appropriate direction and receive and act upon feedback in a timely manner.

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time while using computers, computer monitors, and other office productivity equipment like copy machines and printers.
• Be able to physically fulfill logistical needs during events support, including ability to lift 20-30lbs (delivery and setup of sometimes heavy materials, signage, audiovisual support, etc.).

Nice To Haves

• Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, MPA, etc.) and/or extensive experience in creating marketing communications.
• Grant writing experience.
• Non-profit organization or fundraising experience.
• Experience using project management software.

Responsibilities

• Teach the process of philanthropy in the Church to current donors and prospects through communication and marketing collateral for assigned priorities and projects and teach donor liaisons, partners, and other staff the technical requirements of grant-related communications and applications
• Engage by creating inspiring and informative communication pieces and comply with technical grant proposal requirements that move donors and prospective donors to become engaged with approved priorities, create meaningful marketing and communication pieces to integrate givers and receivers of donations made in a personalized and meaningful way
• Coordinate with colleagues, partners, external organizations, approved vendors and Church correlation to ensure all products meet PHI and Church standards as well as exacting application requirements for grant applications
• Invite by creating meaningful invitations in the form of grant and other proposals for approved priorities to assist donor liaisons and institutional partners in facilitating inspiring giving experiences and strengthening relationships with donors and prospective donors
• Report by creating meaningful stewardship and financial reports informing and delighting donors regarding the impact of their giving
