Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communication Specialists 1-3 will serve as an extension of the Executive Communications Division to assist in managing communication efforts, including, media inquiries, data analysis, reporting and content creation for various departments. Communication Specialist Levels 1-3, Salary $69,622 - $122,200 will be based upon experience. Required Tasks Assist in developing strategy and communications efforts that improve earned media placement for the department and its divisions. Provide communication support to the Director of Communications and Department Directors. Chief support activities include: Strategic communication planning Create press releases, department specific announcements, talking points and other related materials as directed by the director of communication Develop and track key performance indicators for the department Coordinate with Communication Director and communication team by attending weekly communication call. Maintain clear and open lines of communication between the office of communication and department Field and research media inquiries Arrange for content, design updates & modifications to the DPS website and any other electronic communication method Write, compile, edit and distribute the monthly departmental newsletter Assist with content creation for social media Create and support the Department brand Develop recommendations for policy and practices that enable Department to realize the value of effective internal and external social networking Coordinate and participate in special events Communicate with local organizations and government officials, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Educational/Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree (Graduate degree preferred in Communications or Journalism) Communications Specialist 1 - Five (5) years of experience supporting a comprehensive communications program ( public or governmental experience preferred ), including community engagement, presenting to the public, and using a variety of communication of techniques, tools, and resources. Communications Specialist 2 - Ten (10) years of experience supporting a comprehensive communications program ( public or governmental experience preferred ), including community engagement, presenting to the public, and using a variety of communication of techniques, tools, and resources. Communications Specialist 3 - Fifteen (15) years of experience supporting a comprehensive communications program ( public or governmental experience preferred ), including community engagement, presenting to the public, and using a variety of techniques, tools, and resources. Communications Specialist 1-3, Salary $69,622 - $76,682. Position and salary will be based upon experience.
